Your gutter system is part of your roof system. Gutters that drain poorly or pull away from the fascia create real risk of water damage to your home's structure.
Gutters direct roof runoff away from your home's foundation, walls, and landscaping. When they fail — whether due to blockage, joint failure, sagging, or improper slope — water accumulates where it shouldn't. Over time this contributes to foundation drainage problems, fascia rot, and ice dam formation at the eaves in winter.
In Calgary's climate, properly functioning gutters are especially important because of the volume of snowmelt that runs off residential roofs during spring thaw events. A system that handles summer rain adequately can be overwhelmed during rapid snowmelt if sections have shifted or blocked over winter.
Sectional gutter systems develop leaks at joints over time. We clean, dry, and reseal leaking joints with appropriate gutter sealant.
Sagging sections no longer drain toward the downspout. We reattach and re-slope sections to restore drainage flow.
Gutters pulling away from fascia are often a fastener issue. We replace failed spikes and hangers with more durable gutter screws.
Disconnected or improperly terminating downspouts direct water against foundations. We repair and extend to discharge water safely away.
Accumulated debris blocks flow and stresses hangers. We clear gutters and flush downspouts to restore proper drainage.
When sections are cracked, corroded, or heavily damaged, we replace those sections to restore system integrity.
The best way to extend gutter life is regular clearing — at minimum once each fall after leaves have finished dropping, and once in spring. If your property has significant tree coverage, twice-yearly cleaning is advisable. We also recommend inspecting gutter-to-fascia attachment each spring and ensuring downspout extensions terminate well away from your foundation.
Gutter Condition and Roof Inspections: When we conduct a roof inspection, gutter condition is always included. If issues were flagged in a recent inspection, we can address those findings as a separate scope of work.
